The Coders of Jedi Sanctuary

Meet the Geeks at Home

Hello, I'm Jedi Seven, I'm the girl in the photograph above. This is a little bit about the technical end of the web site.

The designs for the pages were done in Adobe Photoshop. I start in Photoshop with a blank page. Typically web pages are 1024x758 - but with new monitors those are changing somewhat. I give a little bit of space for browser intrusion so my starting canvass would be something like 1018x800 (the latter number doesn't matter.) Then I start collaging images together along with words which is a lot of fun.

After I am happy with the image(s) I then start to carve them up and put them into CSS. I try to make the pages similar so I don't have to code quite so much from scratch. It takes about two hours from start to finish to design a page and mark it up into CSS. The homepage rotation has 8 images total and as of writing this we have three internal designs.

The forum at JediSanctuary is not designed by me. It is a template found on phpbb. I did customize it somewhat to match our Star Wars theme but I didn't take the time to design it. I may in the future. I'm glad so many have said they like it a lot.

The man in the picture is Jedi Master Coder - as I effectionately call him. Him and I share an office and a life in small town in Missouri (USA). He helped me with the back end coding of the site and works as a programmer developing high end applications.

Hopefully at some point I will put some tutorials together about how to build web sites from Photoshop pages.
