Human beings are divided creatures – ever wonder why? Pelar writes…
“So - this still leaves us with two fundamental questions:
1) What is the "greater good of the universe"?
2) How does one get in harmony with it?”
And the Jedi go around and around with intangibles about the harmony of the Universe and trying to be in balance, yet balance is hard to come by.
Do you feel perfectly balanced? No, no one does.
Monks work at it sometimes a life time forsaking distraction to set meditatively in forests and beside streams and THEY struggle with it?
Humans, we divide up the world into black and white sequences – THIS is good – THAT is bad. Our entertainment (like Star Wars) is comprised mostly of an epic struggle between two easily discernable sides. Why aren’t our lives a more perfect reflection of our morality tales and heroes journey?
Is your pet dog conflicted? Does that house cat on the couch worry about being in harmonic balance with the rest of the universe? Of course not – they are in step with the natural order of things. You’re not.

One of my favorite professors told me that the world is a complex fractal of beautiful symmetry. There are patterns there that we guess at only, not totally comprehending due to the complexity -- and as an artist when I go to work on a composition I can feel symmetry deep in my bones. I tune into that world and feel completely at peace.

The insight on why we are divided however took place due to my other occupation – computer ninja. I’m wickedly good with machines and that started a very long time ago on an old IBM 8080. I worked my way into a higher level administrative position where I did my ninja coding and thinking all day long every day until my brain developed in essence a repetitive use injury.
Off of work for awhile I went back to reading, “The left brain operates as a computer for the right brain.” That’s nothing new – that is in most neuroscience books, but I know computers…
Computers are linear. They use simple criteria to computer straight forward answers. They impose order. They tell us what we SHOULD be or shouldn’t be, they dictate to us from sun up and sun set.
On a planet full of nothing but organics, nothing but beautiful symmetry in fanciful rhythms – why is the only creature with computers are also thinking as clumsy as computers – we are the only linear systems on this rock planet earth.
The Only.
You know what the odds of having a completely aberrant system like linear logic is on a fully developed planet like earth? Astronomical.
So how is it that in all this organic goodness we have linear processing and the clunkiness that is the human mind chomping away day after day on the problem that it’s a linear system trying to make organic systems linear too so it can interface with them?
Because in reality – that’s what we are doing – most of us Jedi are pretty obsessed with somehow interfacing with the organic – to be balanced and to interface with that harmony because in the linear mind there is only the chomping away of bit after bit. Do this, don’t do that, Good, Bad, Ugly, Nice - - very simple criteria turned out one after the other. The thing – you can’t get there from here.
How many self-help books are there?
A lot of them are about how to befriend your inner child. Make sense of emotions. Deal with issues that lay in the realm of the unconscious – in other words … access the organic side and process the data found there.
So where did the system come from?
Not from our planet. It makes sense – why would a planet that has given birth to one organic system after another in fractal abstraction suddenly go with a linear model that blue screens and gets stuff wrong all the time? One Discover Magazine article says that brain ‘fuzz’ is so bad that it works at about a 90% data loss. A lot of biological articles have talked about the root mind, the basic primitive mind and how our linear consciousness is built on top of that.
(If a perfect being built our linear consciousness they really did a bad job.)
I think it was tweaked on top of the primitive mind in order to interface with… ? Who knows.
Maybe psychic beings, maybe other interstellar computers – maybe technology that was lost millennia ago, but since that day we use technology to augment our existence. We’re not living in our own pelts, hunting our own food, getting place to place on our own feet – no, we are augmented in every way with technology. We live in a symbiosis with it tighter then we live in symbiosis with our families.
We run a linear operating system with an organic base system living on a planet that is entirely organic.
And there you go – that’s why we struggle. We’re not all linear, and we’re not all organic. We have halves of two separate worlds within us and two ways of living.
We’re all connected together yet it’s on the organic level so that the linear doesn’t fully comprehend or make use of it. We’re not all the same. Some of us have an infinitely higher capacity for contemplation, creativity and achievement then others. It’s taboo to say and goes back to that frightening concept of eugenics. But – it doesn’t make it incorrect, just not popular to espouse.
Many cultures say this in not so many words – we have geniuses. We have ‘higher order thinkers’ – some religions have ‘old souls’ or ‘enlightened’ members. Maybe there are more than two divisions – maybe there are many, all different operating systems all functioning for different purposes.
We all hold the same blue prints and dreams but no one knows where they came from originally.
I was driving to work one day and I thought – one of these days maybe the world will be better maybe it will be like XYZ… and it occurred to me, everyone almost every day thinks what the world SHOULD be like. Where do we get the should?
Is it from popular media, is it just a part of mythos that we all carry around with us as it gets impressed upon us? Probably in part.
Possibly the linear mind necessarily comes about through programming and education – but at its essence – I think there is an ancestral blueprint or blueprints that are nestled in there that gives people a sense of rightness and a sense of what should or shouldn’t be.
Why then have the blueprints been ignored? No one knows.
We all dream another dream too however and that is of the future. In some utopian futures there are clean bio-domes with people replicating their food and space shuttles going in and out. You have the ‘Empire’ type super ships cruising the galaxy and a sense of limitless expansion through technology.
In the other utopia – technology is shunned. People return to a simpler existence coexisting with nature and the organic template of planet Earth. You get something akin to Avatar.

In both dreams people live longer, happier existences free from most of the common things that plague mankind. In the majority of religious mythos some kind of promise of this existence is implied or directly stated.
Maybe in the end we’re just interstellar terra-formers planted here to make this earth a little more hospitable (for someone else?). We can’t seem to deviate too far from our programming even when we really want to achieve that perfect balance and harmony with the rest of the organic planet.
Something to think about next time you meditate to achieve balance.
